The r/earthbound Fan Album, a new community driven project
I don’t think it’d be crazy to say that VGM is what introduced a lot of us to chip music. Despite the limitations of their times, old VGM composers still put their hearts and souls into their works, and made some really banger soundtracks as a result. If it wasn’t for them putting in all that effort and showing just how powerful those crusty old soundchips can be in the right hands, I doubt we’d have grown up with the same appreciation for the hardware as we do. One of the most prolific VGM soundtracks that always has stuck out in my mind personally is the OST of EarthBound, the cult classic… …

Critique and Refine: Big Lumby Reveals New EP In The Works
Recently, I’ve been working with our associates over at the Okey Collective on a publication of theirs known as the Okey Collective Zine. It’s a homebrew diskmag with articles about their game development endeavors, and during my time working on it, I’ve met a lot of awesome underground chip artists, one of those artists being a guy named Big Lumby, who I had a chance to interview a few weeks ago about his latest project. Tobi is a musician known for his cutsey, upbeat style of music, scientifically proven to put a smile on even the grumpiest of people. His smooth tracks serve as a nice contrast to some of the more explosive, edgy music that ofte…

Harieiv Teases Her Debut Album
One of my favorite tracks from the last Chip Jam was a song titled"Final Chaos." It had this dark, atmospheric feel to it that really encapsulated the theme of the Jam, which was "Out of Time." It was just one of those songs that just managed to paint a picture in your head with how thematic it was. That song was composed by competition veteran Harieiv, who I recently had the chance to interview about her upcoming projects. Harieiv is a unique artist in our community, known for her atmospheric, smooth style of music. She composes the brunt of it in BeepBox (and its modded variants), but also…
